MANATEE Final Event, Naples
25-26 November 2004
The
MANATEE Final Event,
held at
Stazione
Marittima, Port of Naples,
comprised the
definition of MSML, a demonstration
of an MSML based system and results
from system validation. The audience
was presented how MSML is designed
to achieve a wide acceptance in many
different applications, and the
possibilities that exist for users
to extend MSML for their specific
needs. An MSML based system for
information exchange between vessels
and shore bases was demonstrated.
This system has been tested on two
Icebreakers belonging to the Swedish
Maritime Administration. MSML has
been validated by feedback from end
users and stakeholders in the
MANATEE project. The results
presented was that MSML can be used
to exchange safety related messages
efficient and reliable and can be
used in several existing onboard
systems and services.
The
Final Review by the European
Commission was held on 26/11. On
this meeting the reviewers announced
that the project was a success,
especially in form of the
standardization of MSML, and making
it an open standard.
MANATEE SSN Meeting, London
11 October 2004
The last Stakeholders Supporting
Network (SSN) Meeting in the MANATEE
project was held at the
Nautical Institute in London. In
addition to existing SSN members the
meeting was visited by several
representatives of the shipping industry
and maritime administrations. Mr. Kim
Fisher, Head of Navigation and Communication,
Maritime and Coastguard Agency, UK,
presented the EU Vessel Traffic
Monitoring Information System. The audience was also
presented with MSML, future applications
and a demonstration of an MSML based
system for
information exchange between vessels and
shore bases. Feedback from the visitors
was useful for the validation of MSML
and the upcoming event in Naples.
